Concrete Pump Finance From Lenders Who Get It

Line pumps, boom pumps and trailer units. Specialised gear scares off generalist lenders, so we take it to the ones that fund it every week.

What we sort out for you

New, used or imported. We line up the options side by side, including terms that suit gear that works hard and holds its value.

Line, boom or trailer units
Specialised gear narrows the panel. We take the unit to the lenders that actually understand pumping equipment.
New, used or imported
Imports and ex-fleet units need a lender comfortable with the valuation. We know which ones are.
Age and hours
Hours matter more than the build year on pumps. We take yours to lenders that price on condition.
Chattel mortgage or lease
Each one lands differently on your balance sheet and your BAS. We map both out before you sign.
Cash flow through the quiet months
Pumping work comes in waves. Repayments can be structured around that rather than fighting it every month.
The real cost, not the headline
Fees, term, balloon and early payout costs folded in, so you can see the total cost of each option.

Financing a concrete pump

Concrete pumps are specialised, expensive and often truck-mounted, which puts them in a different category to a standard ute or digger. A boom pump on a truck chassis is effectively two assets in one, and lenders assess both the pumping unit and the truck underneath.

That's why the choice of lender matters more here than with most equipment. Some lenders are comfortable with pumps and understand how they earn. Others treat them as niche and price accordingly. We know which is which.

Who concrete pump finance suits

Established pumping businesses

Adding a rig or replacing an older one, with a trading history the lender can read.

Operators going out on their own

Experienced pump operators starting a business. Experience and work lined up carry a lot of weight.

Concreters and builders

Bringing pumping in-house rather than hiring it, usually starting with a line or trailer pump.

Types of pump we fund

Boom pumps

Truck-mounted units that place concrete exactly where it's needed. The biggest ticket item, usually funded with a chattel mortgage or lease over the whole rig.

Line pumps

Smaller truck or trailer mounted pumps for slabs and footings. A common first rig for operators going out on their own.

Trailer pumps

Towed units that are cheaper to buy and run. Often the easiest to finance for a newer business.

Typical terms

Common ranges, not promises. Every lender sets its own policy, and specialist gear narrows the field.

  • Term: often three to seven years. The age of both the truck and the pump at the end of the term can cap it.
  • Balloon: common, to keep repayments manageable while the rig builds up work.
  • Deposit: not always needed for established operators. New businesses and older or imported rigs are more likely to need one.
  • Structure: chattel mortgage is the most common, with finance leases also used. See chattel mortgage, lease or rental.
  • Paperwork: full doc for larger rigs and newer businesses, low doc for established operators on smaller amounts.

An example repayment

Illustrative only. A $250,000 truck-mounted boom pump at an example rate of 9.50% p.a., fees not included.

SetupRepaymentTotal repaid
Five years, no balloon$5,250 a month$315,028
Five years, $50,000 balloon$4,596 a month$325,772
Seven years, no balloon$4,086 a month$343,224

A useful way to test the numbers is to work backwards. A repayment of $5,250 a month is about $1,212 a week the rig has to clear before fuel, wages, insurance and servicing. The balloon and the longer term both lower that figure, and both cost more in total, by about $10,700 and $28,200 respectively on these numbers.

These figures are illustrative only. They are not a quote, a current rate or an offer of credit. Your rate, fees and terms depend on the lender, the rig and your circumstances. Repayments are calculated in arrears and rounded.

What lenders look at

Your experience

Time running pumps, whether as an owner or an operator, counts for a lot, particularly for a new ABN.

The work behind it

Regular work with builders and concreters, or contracts in place, shows the lender how the repayments will be met.

The rig itself

Age, hours, pump brand and the condition of the truck. Imported or older units can narrow the field, so a service history and an inspection report help.

Registration and inspections

Boom pumps generally need plant registration and periodic inspections under work health and safety rules, on top of the truck's own registration. Current paperwork shows the lender the rig is compliant and can keep earning.

Your financials

Full doc with tax returns, or low doc on your ABN, BAS and bank statements if your books are behind.

Structuring the deal

One loan or two

The truck and the pump can be funded together or separately, depending on how they were bought. Together is usually simpler.

Balloon

A balloon lowers repayments while the pump builds up work. Just plan for the lump sum at the end. More in balloon payments explained.

Used and imported units

Plenty of pumps change hands privately or come in from overseas. Both can be financed, with extra checks on ownership, compliance and value.

Lines, hoses and fitout

Pipeline, hoses, remote controls and other gear bought with the rig can often go on the same invoice and the same loan. Adding them later usually means a separate application.

What to have ready

  • ABN, entity details and GST registration status
  • Recent BAS lodgements and business bank statements
  • Financials and tax returns if you are going full doc
  • A summary of your pumping experience and the work lined up
  • A quote or tax invoice for the rig and any gear to be funded with it
  • Serial numbers, hours, service history and any inspection report on a used rig
  • Plant and vehicle registration details

Concrete pump finance questions

Can I finance a used concrete pump?

Yes. Used pumps are funded regularly. The lender will want the age, hours and condition, and sometimes an inspection.

Can a new business get finance for a pump?

It's possible, especially with pumping experience, a deposit or work already lined up. A trailer or line pump is often an easier first step than a boom.

Do the truck and pump need separate finance?

Not usually. A truck-mounted pump is commonly funded as one asset. If you're buying a pump to fit to a truck you already own, it can be funded on its own.

How long can the loan be?

Often up to seven years, depending on the age of the truck and the pump at the end of the term, and on the lender.

Will the lender want an inspection?

On a used or imported rig, often yes. A recent inspection report, service history and current plant registration make the process quicker.

Can I include the lines and hoses?

Usually, if they are on the same invoice as the rig. It is much easier to include them at the start than to add them later.

What structure suits a pump?

Most operators use a chattel mortgage, so the business owns the rig and can generally claim the GST in its next BAS if it's registered. A lease can suit other tax positions. See chattel mortgage, lease or rental.

Need the truck or trailer separately? See truck loans and trailer finance, or browse equipment finance.
