A lineup of sports, cruiser, dirt and touring motorbikes

Motorbike & Scooter Finance, Priced Properly

Road, dirt, cruiser, scooter or learner-approved. New or used, dealer or private sale. We take your bike or scooter to lenders who actually know them.

Takes about 3 minutes. No credit check to get a quote.

Trusted by over 80 lenders

On the road sooner

Bikes and scooters get assessed differently to cars, so we line up the lenders who price them fairly and tell you what each option really costs.

Dealer or private sale
Bikes move privately more than most things. Not every lender funds that. We know the ones that do.
Road, dirt, learner or scooter
Rego status and bike type change who'll lend. An unregistered dirt bike needs a different lender to a road cruiser or a scooter.
New, used or older
Age and kilometres narrow the panel fast on bikes. We take yours to the lenders that price it properly.
Secured or unsecured
Secured is cheaper, but small or older bikes often can't be. We price both so you can see the difference.
Gear and accessories
Helmet, leathers, luggage and an exhaust can usually go in the loan instead of on a credit card afterwards.
The real cost, not the headline
Fees, term and early payout costs folded in, so you can see what each option actually costs you.

What is a motorbike or scooter loan?

A motorbike or scooter loan is money borrowed to buy a bike or scooter, paid back over a set term with interest. Most are secured against the bike or scooter, which keeps the rate well below a personal loan or a credit card.

Bikes sit a little differently to cars. The amounts are smaller, a lot of them change hands privately, and plenty are not registered at all. Each of those narrows the panel, which is why a knockback from one lender tells you very little about the next.

Everything about motorbike and scooter finance

The questions we get asked most, answered properly rather than in sales copy.

Secured or unsecured, and which one do you want?

A secured bike loan uses the bike as collateral and prices accordingly. The lender will have rules about the bike's age and condition, and will want it registered and insured.

An unsecured loan is not tied to the bike. That makes it the usual answer for dirt bikes, unregistered machines, project bikes and anything under a lender's minimum secured amount.

On a $6,000 bike the difference in rate often matters less than you would think, because the loan is small and the term is short. On a $30,000 tourer it matters a great deal.

Road, dirt and learner-approved bikes

A registered road bike is the easiest to fund. It has a VIN a lender can check, a rego record and a resale market they understand.

Dirt bikes are usually unregistered, which means most secured lenders are out. Unsecured is normally the cleaner path rather than a compromise.

LAMS bikes fund like any other road bike. What does matter is that a newer rider is often on a shorter licence history, and a couple of lenders weight that.

Scooters: same loan, smaller numbers

A road-registered scooter, from a 50cc commuter to a big maxi scooter, is financed the same way as a motorbike. It has a VIN, a rego record and a resale market, so the same secured lenders will look at it. Registered electric scooters count too.

The catch is size. Plenty of scooters cost less than a lender's minimum secured loan, and on a small amount the fees can matter more than the rate. A short unsecured loan sometimes works out cheaper. We price both and show you.

A stand-up e-scooter is a different thing. It is not registered, so secured vehicle lenders will not fund it.

Dealer or private sale

Dealer purchases are simple to settle: invoice, warranty, clean history.

Private sales are extremely common on bikes and not every lender funds them. Those that do will want proof there is no money owing, an inspection in some cases, and payment direct to the seller.

Good bikes move in days. Getting approved before you go looking is the difference between buying the one you want and watching it sell.

Age, kilometres and what they do to the rate

Lenders cap the age of the bike at the end of the term, not the start. On an older bike that is what quietly shortens the term you are offered.

Kilometres matter less on bikes than on cars, and condition and service history matter more. A well-kept older bike often funds better than the year alone suggests.

Modified bikes can make some lenders nervous, particularly where the mods affect compliance. Worth mentioning up front rather than at inspection.

Gear, accessories and on-road costs

A helmet, jacket, boots, luggage and a pipe can usually go into the same loan rather than onto a card at a much worse rate.

Rego, stamp duty, dealer delivery and the first service belong in the number too. On a bike they are a larger share of the purchase than they are on a car.

Financing gear does mean paying interest on it for the full term, so it is worth deciding deliberately rather than letting it get bundled in at the dealership.

What the lender is actually looking at

Your credit file, your income and how stable it is, what you already owe, and the bike itself.

A default or a thin file is not automatically a no. Lenders weight things differently, and applying to several in a row does real damage, because every application leaves a mark on your file.

That is the case for comparing first and applying once.

Before you sign, think about these

Six things worth a minute each. They are where the money actually moves.

Registered or not

An unregistered dirt bike needs a different lender to a road bike or scooter. Knowing which you have saves a wasted application.

Dealer or private sale

Private sales are common on bikes and not every lender funds them. Sort that before you find the bike.

The real on-road cost

Rego, stamp duty, delivery and the first service are a bigger share of the price on a bike than on a car.

Gear in or out of the loan

Helmet, leathers and luggage can go in the loan, but you pay interest on them for the whole term.

Your credit file

Pull your own report before you apply, it is free. Errors are more common than people expect.

Insurance

Comprehensive cover is a condition on most secured bike loans, and premiums vary hugely by bike and by rider age.

The costs that hide in the fine print

A low advertised rate can still be the dearer loan. These are the line items to hunt for before you commit:

  • Establishment and monthly fees. On a smaller loan these hurt proportionally more than they would on a car.
  • Early payout penalties. Bikes get traded often. If you upgrade in two years, this is the number that decides what that costs.
  • Dealer add-ons rolled into the loan. Extended warranties and paint protection get financed at your loan rate for the full term.
  • Minimum loan amounts. Some lenders will not go under a floor, which quietly rules them out on a cheaper bike or scooter.
  • Comparison rate vs headline rate. The comparison rate folds the known fees in. It is the honest number.
