How we collect, use, store and disclose your personal and credit information.
Compare City ("we", "us", "our") respects your privacy and is committed to protecting the personal information you share with us. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, hold, use and disclose personal information, including through our website, our comparison tools and our related services.
Compare City is a comparison site giving you access to over 80 lenders to find the right loan for you. We help you compare finance options, but we do not ourselves assess applications, provide credit assistance, or write loans. When you submit an enquiry through Compare City, it is passed to one of our functioning brokerage partners, who carry out the actual credit assessment and loan writing as authorised credit representatives of a separate Australian Credit Licence holder:
When you submit an enquiry or application through Compare City, your personal information is shared with one or more of these brokerages so that they can provide you with credit assistance and, where applicable, write your loan. This Privacy Policy applies to Compare City's own collection, holding, use and disclosure of your information as the comparison site; each brokerage's own handling of your information once your enquiry is passed to them is separately governed by that brokerage's Privacy Policy and Credit Guide. We compare, and refer you to, only these three brokerage partners, not the entire market. Compare City acts as a referrer for these brokerages, and we receive a referral fee or commission from the relevant brokerage for enquiries we pass to them. The personal information we may collect about you includes your name, date of birth, address, email address, phone number, occupation, images, and any preferences or opinions you share with us, for example through enquiry forms, surveys or customer feedback.

When you visit our website, we automatically collect information such as your IP address, device and network information, browser type, and the pages you view.
Where we collect personal information directly from you, for example through an enquiry or application form, we will provide a short notice at that point covering who is collecting the information, why, and who it may be shared with, in addition to this Privacy Policy. Please read that notice, along with this Policy, before submitting your information.
"Credit eligibility information" is information obtained from a credit reporting body, or derived from that information, about your credit worthiness. This may include:
"Credit information" more broadly includes information about credit that has been applied for or provided to you, including the type and amount of credit, repayment history, default information, hardship arrangements, serious credit infringements, court proceedings and publicly available information relevant to your credit history.
We use credit-related information to assess applications for finance referred through Compare City to our internal brokerage partners, and to help manage that finance once provided.
The credit reporting bodies we, or our internal brokerage partners, may use include Equifax Pty Ltd, Experian Australia Credit Services Pty Ltd and illion Australia Pty Ltd. Copies of their privacy policies are available at equifax.com.au, experian.com.au and illion.com.au respectively.

Before we share your information with another organisation, we take reasonable steps to be satisfied that they will handle it appropriately, or that you have consented to the disclosure.
Some of our service providers may store or process data outside Australia. By providing us with your personal information, you acknowledge that it may be disclosed to recipients located overseas, and that overseas recipients may not be bound by the Australian Privacy Principles.
We use advertising and analytics tools from Meta (Facebook and Instagram) and Google to measure how well our ads work. When you send us an enquiry, we may share your email address and phone number with Meta in a scrambled (hashed) form, along with cookie identifiers, so Meta can match your enquiry to an ad you saw. Google receives your browser's analytics identifier and whether your enquiry progressed, but not your name or contact details. Meta and Google may handle this information overseas, including in the United States.
Sensitive information is a category of personal information that receives extra protection under the Australian Privacy Principles, such as information about racial or ethnic origin, health, religious beliefs, sexual orientation or criminal record. We do not seek to collect sensitive information unless it is necessary for a specific purpose, you have consented, or we are otherwise required or permitted by law.
We take reasonable steps to protect the personal information we hold using appropriate physical, electronic and administrative safeguards. However, no method of storage or transmission over the internet is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security of information transmitted to us.

If we become aware of a data breach involving your personal information that is likely to result in serious harm, we will notify you and the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) as required under the Notifiable Data Breaches scheme, and take reasonable steps to reduce any impact on you.
You may ask us for access to the personal information we hold about you, or ask us to correct it if you believe it is inaccurate, out of date or incomplete. We will generally respond to access and correction requests within a reasonable time, and in most cases within 30 days. We may charge a reasonable fee to cover the cost of retrieving information. In some circumstances we may be entitled to refuse a request, in which case we will explain why.
Where we collect a government identifier, such as a Tax File Number, we will only use or disclose it as permitted or required by law, and will not use it to identify you.
We will only send you direct marketing by email, SMS or other electronic message with your consent, which may be express or reasonably inferred from an existing relationship, in accordance with the Spam Act 2003 (Cth). If you no longer wish to receive marketing communications from us, you can opt out at any time using the unsubscribe facility in the communication, or by contacting us using the details below.
If we or our brokerage partners contact you by telephone for marketing purposes, we will do so in accordance with the Do Not Call Register Act 2006 (Cth), including checking numbers against the Do Not Call Register where required. This does not affect calls made to progress an enquiry or application you have made with us.
If your complaint is about how we have handled your personal information as the operator of the Compare City website, please contact us using the details below. We will investigate your complaint and respond to you in writing. If you are not satisfied with our response, you may refer your complaint to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC).
If your complaint relates to a brokerage partner's handling of your personal information, or to the credit assistance they provided, please raise it with that brokerage directly in the first instance, using the complaints process in their own Credit Guide or Privacy Policy. If you remain unsatisfied, you may refer a credit-related complaint to the Australian Financial Complaints Authority (AFCA) on 1800 931 678, or by writing to GPO Box 3, Melbourne VIC 3001.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time by publishing a revised version on our website. We encourage you to check this page periodically.
